In exported skeleton data, folder names are prepended to the skin name to create the final name used in the Spine Runtimes. Skins can be moved between folders by dragging them. To create a folder, select a skin and click New. It can be exited at any time by clicking the Add to Skin button again or by pressing spacebar or escape. Add to SkinĬlicking the Add to Skin button enters add to skin mode, for adding skin bones and skin constraints to the skin. The skin color has no effect at runtime and is only used for visualization in the Spine editor.

ColorĬhanging the skin's color can help differentiate skins in the tree to make identification easier. If an attachment is not exported and is keyed in an animation, the keys won't be exported. If a mesh attachment is not exported, none of its linked meshes will be exported either. When Export is unchecked, the skin won't be exported, meaning the skin and its attachments won't be in exported JSON or binary and won't appear in image or video exports. This is useful when the images for each skin are organized into subfolders. For example, head because red/head for the red skin.

Rename attachments: Prepends the name of the skin to each duplicated attachment.

Duplicate keys: The keys for each duplicated attachment in each animation are also duplicated.

Inherit deform: The linked meshes will share the deform keys for the source mesh.

Linked meshes: Instead of duplicating the meshes, linked meshes are created for the other skins.

This is useful when adding an attachment that is the same in most or all skins.

Duplicate attachments for each skin: Duplicates the attachment for every skin.

Some of the options will only appear for mesh attachments or attachments with keys. However, first a dialog is shown to provide more options. If an attachment is selected when creating a new skin placeholder, the attachment will be moved to the active skin under the new skin placeholder. A skin placeholder will be created for each one. Multiple attachments can be selected before creating new skin placeholders. Bones and constraints can also be added to the skin.Ī skin is created by selecting the Skins node in the tree and clicking New. Setting up a skin consists of creating the skin and skin placeholders, then populating the skin placeholders with attachments for that skin. Instead, animations show and hide skin placeholders and which attachments are actually shown comes from which skins are visible, enabling animations to be used with any skins. By doing this, animations are not tied to showing and hiding specific attachments.

The key to skins is the 'skin placeholder', which is an attachment that goes under a slot in the tree, like any other attachment. A skeleton can have multiple skins visible at once using the skins view. Skins are made up of attachments, bones, and constraints that are only active when the skin is visible. Skins can be used for simple outfits swaps or to assemble entire characters out of many different pieces. The Previous Frame and Next Frame color labels allows you set the colors.Skins allow a skeleton's animations to be reused with different sets of attachments. Tint controls how strongly the frames are tinted, the first screen has 100%, which creates a silhouette, while below you can still see a bit of the original colors at 50%. The boxes at the top allow you to toggle them on and off quickly, the main slider in the middle is a sort of ‘master transparency’ while the sliders to the side allow you to control the transparency per keyframe offset. The slider and the button with zero offset control the master opacity and visibility of all the onion skins. Onion-skinning is a digital implementation of such a workflow, and it’s very useful when trying to animate. For that, they would place said keyframes below the frame they were working on, and the light table would make the lines of the keyframes shine through, so they could reference them. In traditional animation animators would make their initial animations on semitransparent paper on top of an light-table (of the special animators variety), and they’d start with so called keyframes, and then draw frames in between. The term onionskin comes from the fact that onions are semi-transparent.

Just don’t try to animate on a layer like this if you rely on onion skins, instead make a new one. These layers can currently only be created by using background as raster layer in the content section of the new image dialog. Changed in version 4.2: Since 4.2 onion skins are disabled on layers whose default pixel is fully opaque.
